Make the Most of Your Golf Pro
Just as a sommelier can help you venture beyond the world of chardonnay, a golf pro can get you out of a rut. These tips can help to make the most of your lesson time.
- Pick a pro you trust and with whom you have an easy rapport and clear communication.
- Come to the lesson with an open mind and be amenable to change. Golfers cling to their bad habits and what feels comfortable, even if it's not right.
- Come with stated goals: why you are taking the lessons; how much time you can practice. Be realistic about your objectives.
- Request a lesson plan based on your time and financial commitments.
- When something isn't clear, ask for clarification immediately, during the lesson. Bring a notebook to jot down key phrases and drills. Give the instructor feedback on what is working best for you.
- Review the lesson with the instructor (that is, repeat it back to her). The pro will know if you've grasped the concepts and are clear about what you're working on.
