Registry Tips from Reed & Barton
Reed & Barton's Tips on Creating the Perfect Bridal Registry
There are so many common questions about bridal registries. You are not alone if you are asking any or all of these questions:
-When should we register?
-Should we do a typical registration? (We have everything already!)
-Where should we register? Should we register at more than one location?
We have talked to couples, experts and wedding guests in order to arrive at this list of tips:
- This should be fun, not work. While the gift guide selection process is most often called a "Bridal Registry" it is becoming more common to call it a "Wedding Registry". Many couples enjoy browsing on line together as well as in their favorite stores.
- Depending on your network of friends, your wedding plans might be celebrated with a "couples shower" rather than a typical "bridal shower."
- Most couples register 4 to 6 months before the wedding or even earlier if an engagement party or showers are planned.
- Start by thinking about where you love to shop. You should register for more items than your intended number of guests, in order to give plenty of options. Selecting your gifts should be fun and convenient for your guests, too! Offer them a variety of price points.
- You probably won't receive everything on your registration list so you should truly want to shop for items you do not receive as gifts. Many retailers have programs to help you "complete" your bridal registry.
- Will your guests be coming from many locations? If so, many would love the option of ordering your gift on line, so consider at least one registration with a national retailer who has a great e-commerce site.
- The average couple registers at 2 to 3 locations. Let your family and wedding party know where you have registered and let them spread the word!
- You may think you have "everything" and do not need to register. Some couples have told us that they found they indeed had all they need for everyday use but they lack holiday décor or the right items for entertaining.
- If you do not already have a style for entertaining, what appeals to you? Outdoor parties? Wine tastings? Big family holidays feasts or quiet dinners for 4 or 6?
- -Retailers all have checklists - these are guides. You do not need to register for everything on the list. It may help to inventory your present and future lifestyle plans in categories of "Everyday", "Outdoor/Casual Entertaining", "Holiday Entertaining and Parties."
- Typically couples register for places settings for 12, but, you need to consider the size of the groups you will be likely to entertain. How many are there in your extended family and how will that circle grow?
Imagining all of the many celebrations you will enjoy together is a fantastic way to plan your future!
